Make Room for Nothing

In writing, a margin refers to the 1.25 inches of space between the edge of a page and the internal main content. I know 1.25 inches of space doesn’t sound like much, but it’s an understood rule that having the right amount of “white space” around a text, will add to its usability and readability. Basically, margins help our brains better understand and process information. Every now and then, we need to take time to reflect and process life. We need to take time to hear God’s voice and hear what He thinks about what’s going on in our lives. One of the things I’m learning is that God often speaks in the margin. We find rest in the margin. Our souls are refreshed in the margin. So, how much margin are you building into your schedule?

Today’s Scripture

8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. - Exodus 20:8-11 NLT

Tip From Nate

Margin isn’t something you fall into, it’s something you intentionally build into your schedule. Decide what days/times you’ll target as your margin/Sabbath time, and build your schedule around that.
