Make Room to Believe

I’ve been a “reader” from an early age, from normal books to the absurdity of reading the cereal box during breakfast.

During my childhood, my parents had a plaque that had Romans 8:28 in the King James version on it, and it was strategically placed next to the bathroom door.  That being the case, along with my fixation on reading, I read that verse several times daily, even though it was long since committed to memory.  We had that plaque until a house fire, at which time it was broken and discarded.

The bigger picture is that my parents posted this plaque in the home following the death of a toddler, nervous breakdowns, and other family drama.  The faith they exhibited to even put up the plaque, but also to believe the verse, affected me.  It still does today. This faith flowed through the way they lived their lives in front of their children, and to the churches they pastored.

Today’s Scripture

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28 (KJV)

Additional Thought

How do we move away from our natural tendency to worry and complain to believing Paul’s word to the Roman church and acting on it?  I Peter 5:7 says to cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for us.  It’s not easy to do that - it takes “practicing” faith.

Tip from Dale

“It’s so easy to get trapped in the emotions that accompany the hard times in our lives - focus instead on the promises of God to be backing us up every step of the way.”

Study Suggestions

We all face worry and doubt.  Read Matthew 6:25-34.  How can you apply these verses to your life with the goal of having increased faith through the challenges you face?
