Make Room for God in Your Relationships

In the fast-paced world we live in, it's hard to carve out time to spend with God.  I often think about the scripture in Matthew 7 where Jesus says, "I never knew you."  That would be the worst thing I could think of to hear God say, but how is it possible to know someone if you never spend time with them?  Think of your spouse or best friend.  What if you met them, but never spent time with them after that?  Would they be in relationship with you, or you with them?  Would they know you?  As Connections Pastor, I am very aware of the power of relationships.  Relationships can cause someone to get plugged in and grow in ways they never imagined.

Today's Scripture

"But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you." - Matthew 6:6 NASB

Tip from Denese

If you do not have a regular quiet time with God, start small, but do it faithfully.  Spending quiet time with God is simply being intentional about having a relationship with Him.  God will honor your faithfulness and, as you grow in Him, you will find yourself desiring to get to know Him better and to spend more time with Him.

Study Suggestion

Study the Gospels for examples of how Jesus spent time with God.  Mark 1:35 tells us that Jesus rose early and went to a quiet place to pray.  I can’t think of a better example to follow than the one Jesus set for us.  Make a commitment to spend daily time with Him today.
