““God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of His purposes. You don’t find it lying around on the surface. It’s not the latest message, but more like the oldest – what God determined as the way to bring out His best in us, long before we ever arrived on the scene.” — 1 Corinthians 2:7 MSG
Life is hard. How many times have you thought that or said it to someone else? (I say it to my kids a lot!) I remember thinking that many times in my life – like when I was 8 years old & my dad was diagnosed with MS, when I was told I needed surgery to correct my scoliosis, when I lost a loved one, or when things just didn’t go the way I planned. It’s easy to get discouraged and wonder why things happen or turn out the way they do. We know God doesn’t cause bad things to happen in our lives, but the Bible tells us that God can use situations to bring out the best in us if we allow Him to.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it’s the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” — Proverbs 19:21 NIV
God’s purpose is the one that lasts. Our lives are but a vapor, but He has a purpose that extends into eternity. If we will humble ourselves daily before Him and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, we can align ourselves with His purpose and He will cause all things (good or bad) to work together for His glory.
The Lord and His purposes are perfect, but we are not.
“He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace.” — 2 Timothy 1:9 NIV
It’s not always easy to live out His purpose instead of ours, and He never promised it would be comfortable, but by consistently studying His Word and spending time with Him daily in prayer, He will give you the strength you need to do what He has called you to do. Anchor yourself in His purpose every day!
