DEVOTIONAL
I had reached the lowest point in my life. My wife had left me, my job was barely paying the bills, and I was trying to hide my pain by getting high on booze and drugs. I sat in my recliner depressed, broken, and hopeless. I had a pistol in my dresser drawer and began to contemplate ending my life. I turned on the TV and tuned in to a local Christian channel that my grandma loved to watch. The pastor made me laugh and more importantly, spoke straight to my heart. God got a hold of me that night, in my living room, and didn’t let go. I dropped to my knees and said, “I know You probably hate me, but I give You my life to do whatever You want. Jesus come into my heart and change me.” With tears in my eyes and a glimmer of hope in my heart, I made my way to bed and passed out. The next day, I awoke to an experience unlike any time before. I felt different and, when I opened the door, everything was clear and beautiful. I was a NEW creature! I cancelled cable, began to read my Bible every moment I could, and prayed for God to lead me to the right church to start my journey.
About two weeks later, I was walking to my car and heard someone call my name. I turned around to see Pastor Jerry running over to meet me. I had met him once, a few months prior, in a little town over three hours away. Somehow he had remembered my name and just so happened to run into me just after I had committed my life to Christ. He taught me how to love people and his family became my family. A few months later, he encouraged me to join an internship program and he helped me to become a pastor. I have served God ever since. God heard my cry, when I needed Him most, and pulled me out of the darkest moment of my life to hold me in His arms and set me on the right path, walking with His Son Jesus.
CALL TO ACTION
Are you in your darkest hour? Do you feel like there’s no way out or any chance of hope? Are you ready to give up and see what God can do with the broken pieces? God is there, waiting patiently for you to cry out. So do it! Cry out to Him! He will pull you out of the miry clay and set you on the rock, Jesus Christ. You will never be the same again.
SCRIPTURE
“ …I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.” — Psalm 40:1-2 (NKJV)
