Follow Me

DEVOTIONAL

This is a phrase that Jesus says to His disciples right at the beginning of their journey of faith with Him. I suppose the scariest thing I find about following is the fact that we don't always know where we are being led. To follow, we must embrace the fact that we won't always have all the answers. Follow Me means exactly that: follow.

In Lesotho, we have a game -- when on a journey, a child will cling to an adult and keep asking, "Have we arrived yet?" And the adult will keep saying "No," until they get to the said destination. Only when they both get to the destination will the child open their eyes. The whole journey (which is normally rather short), the child will have to rely on the guidance of the adult and walk with their eyes closed. May you have the faith to keep walking even when you don't see, because He who called you is faithful!

Sometimes you don't need to know where He is calling, you just need to know Who....

SCRIPTURES

“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭24‬ (NIV)
“‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’” — Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ (NIV)

PRAYER

Father,

Today I make a commitment to You, in the name of Jesus, to turn from speaking idle words and talking about foolish things that are contrary to Your word concerning myself and others.  Your Word says that the tongue defiles, that the tongue sets on fire the course of nature, and that life and death are in the power of the tongue.

I submit to godly wisdom that I would learn to control my tongue.  I renounce, reject, and repent of every word that has ever proceeded out of my mouth against You and Your will.

Father, I anchor into Your Words, making them a top priority.  They produce good things in my life and in the lives of others because I choose Your Words for my lips, and Your will for my life.

In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
