It might seem a bit strange, but one of the most challenging scriptures through the course of my life has been from Luke 6:45:
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” - Luke 6:45 NKJV
I am fascinated with the human heart. It is a delicate muscle and must be taken care of. Sometimes disease can cause malfunction to occur and the heart to stop beating. When this happens, it is necessary to resuscitate the person to bring him/her back to life. This is done by sending electrical shocks to the heart muscle until it starts beating again. This shock is administered by a device called a defibrillator. These defibrillators range in the amount of shocks they can administer. The voltages can range from 200 to 1,700 volts.
How can we keep our spiritual heart healthy, on a consistent basis, from the need to be REVIVED or RESUSCITATED?
- Ask God to help you do a consistent spiritual heart exam on a regular basis.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties. - Psalm 139:23 NKJV
Ask yourself:
- Is what is flowing out of my heart pleasing to God?
- Is what is flowing out of my heart honoring to those around me?
- Do I allow ungodly treasures to be stored in, or built up, in my heart?
- Do my words reflect my relationship with God?
Exercise your spiritual heart.
- Spiritual exercise comes through the reading and memorizing of God’s Word.
When Christ enters the heart of an individual, life change occurs. Because the heart is the center of our being, it determines our outward behavior and must be changed or converted. Without inward change, no one can do God’s will.
In this New Year, as you focus on your physical heart keeping it healthy through stretching, walking, jogging, or aerobic exercise, make sure that you are giving equal value and time to your spiritual heart. No one wants to be REVIVED or RESUSCITATED physically; but equally, no one should have to be revived spiritually.
In God’s Word, He has reminded each of us:
“Yet in all these things WE are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” - Romans 8:37
Live, Move, and Be victorious and healthy in who Christ has created you to be!
