Have you ever found yourself in a situation where your emotions are clouding your judgment, or maybe you’re in a situation where worry has overtaken your thoughts? When we are in the middle of a tough situation, it is difficult to think clearly and handle it the way God would have us handle it. This is where truth comes in. Truth is the constant in our lives. In fact, in John 14:6, Jesus calls Himself the Truth. Truth is not about emotions or feelings; it is about always returning to what God’s Word says. When we return to the truth in God’s Word, it causes our judgment to be clear and it sets us free from anything that may have been clouding our thoughts about a situation.
Today’s Scripture
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” - John 8:31-32 (NIV)

Tip from Matt
One of the ways I try to return myself to the truth when I feel like my emotions are clouding my judgment is by simply asking myself a couple of questions: What is the truth about this situation? (Not how do I feel, but what is the truth?) The second question I ask is: Does God have all of this under control? I have found that when I am honest with myself and I tell myself the truth about a situation, and when I realize that God has me in His hand, then I am much more at peace about any situation.

Buy the truth and do not sell it— wisdom, instruction and insight as well. - Proverbs 23:23
As believers, we have a tremendous opportunity in God’s Word to gain any truth or wisdom that we are looking for. This week, take some time to begin writing out, or highlighting, specific scriptures that may apply to mindsets or situations you may be up against. When a battle or a tough time comes, you will be glad you have those scriptures readily available to help resist the enemy and tell yourself God’s Truth.
