Make Room for Expectancy

Many times life can seem hectic, busy, and overwhelming.  In fact, for many of us, even reading this short devotional is a struggle because we are squeezing it in to an already packed schedule.  But the Bible is filled with scriptures describing to us the importance of being filled with all the fullness of God.

Today’s Scripture

Ephesians 3:19 (MSG) - And I ask him (God) that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

Additional Thoughts

In this passage, Paul is praying that the people of Ephesus would be able to “take in” the height, the depth, the length, and the breadth of the love of Christ.  Our lives become so filled with other distractions, worries, fears, and insecurities that we have served an eviction notice to Christ.  There is no longer room for Him.  We must begin making room for Him with a spirit of expectancy.

No one cleans out a room that is not going to be used for something.  Many times it is a lack of expectancy that allows us to become complacent.  We must expect that if we make room, God will fill it with the fullness of the Holy Spirit.  If I have a visitor coming to my house to live with me for a time, the visitor cannot occupy the space until I have made room for them.  What areas of your life do you need to make room for God to occupy?  When you make room you are creating an atmosphere of expectancy.  When you do your part you can expect God to do His.  We pray BIG prayers, to a BIG God, and EXPECT BIG RESULTS.

Tip from Jon

Perhaps the greatest asset any of us possess is our time.  I believe one of the greatest things we can do to make room for God to inhabit and fill us up, is by removing things in our schedule and give that time to God.  It might be removing some sleep so you can get up early to spend time with God.  It might be removing certain relationships that cause you to stray from the things of God.  Whatever it might be, I encourage you to make room in your time.

Study Suggestions

I encourage you to do a study searching the Bible for moments where scriptures mention the idea of living life in the fullness.  A very practical way of doing this is to do a quick Google search for “scriptures referencing the fullness of Christ.”  May God fill you to overflowing!
