The Word

DEVOTIONAL

“When Darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging Grace.”  These may be the lines of an old hymn, yet its truth sounds quite refreshing.  So many of our days can become a battle against spiritual darkness in our minds, our wills, and our emotions.  Darkness; we are all quite familiar with it.  It slows us down for fear of tripping and hitting our little toe against every piece of rebellious furniture found in our homes.

We often forget that darkness doesn’t exist. God created light, not darkness. Darkness is the result of light being removed.  Night takes place when the sun is not shining on the earth.  Light always trumps darkness, and darkness will always flee from light.  It literally doesn’t stand a chance.  What should we do when found in a “dark place,” full of questions, confusion, and chaos?  We must use the light of God’s truth to light the way.

Our minds may tell us that we are a failure and God could not possibly love us.  His Word tells us “…we are more than conquerors” Romans 8:35-38

Our minds may tell us we are a complete wreck and we’re powerless.  His Word tells us “…His grace is enough” 2 Corinthians 12:9.

We have the choice to rely on the daily changing “truth” of our feelings and circumstances and continue to walk in darkness, or we can trust in the never-changing Truth of God’s Word. His Word brings light to our steps and keeps us from tripping as we walk and follow Christ.

The Word of the Lord is our solid Rock. “All other ground is sinking sand.”

SCRIPTURES

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NIV)
“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees.” — Psalm 119:10-12 (NIV)
“My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.” — Proverbs 7:1-3 (NIV)

PRAYER

Father,

I choose today to anchor into Your Word, which is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.  Help me today to keep my eyes focused on the truth of Your Word.

I confess that I am more than a conqueror through Your Son and through Your Holy Spirit.  I ask for Your hedge of protection around our kids and teens today; that no weapon formed against them will prosper, but that Your Word shows them the truth of who they are in You.

I pray for Your continual blessing and leading over the Victory Staff; that they hear Your voice, and the voice of another, they do not follow.

In Jesus’ name I pray...Amen.
